Waterproof so far

I tried on several brands, before I kept these. Pros: are they've kept my feet warm and dry in Chicago rain and snow. Its been a mild winter this year but I am always preparing for the next polar vortex. I work outside frequently so I need the right foot wear for a variety of weather from rain, to snow and ice to slush. I've wanted a comfortable pair of duck boots because i want to see the rubber and know its waterproof. Leather has seams that eventually let water into around the sole. The cons: they hit me at the bottom of my calf muscle, which i feel when i walk (I would say i have regular sized calves for my height and weight 5"8 160 lbs, and they've have stiff upper material (Im sure for structural and warmth purposes) which have made them awkward to walk in comfortably. They are basically, to explain, a perfect L shape with a stiff ankle support and not much freedom of movement. The inside of these are plush material and I haven't needed thick socks fortunately because there isn't room. The fit of these was a slimmer profile and less clunky then some I tried also. Hope this helps.

Good so far...still early

Update: 12/12/22 I am knocking off a star based on updated feedback/review. Cold toes seem to be a thing with these boots. We were snow tubing yesterday for about 90 minutes, and ended up being done as my daughter said her toes were hurting from being too cold. It was about 22F outside at the time, and the rest of use were fine with our boots of various brands. She had on 2 pairs of socks, her normal ankle socks, and a thicker calf length socks my wife gave her. That was not enough, so I believe that warrants an adjustment to review based on additional real world performance.Original:My 11 year old daughter needed new boots this year, and decided to get these instead of looking for big kids ones, in a size 7. She's around 6.5 right now for shoe sizes. The 7 seems to fit her alright, and is able to be tied down tight enough if they are a bit big. They look nice, feel soft on the inside. However, that's usually short lived as the soft fleece or material will mat down over time. The bottom of the boot inside I thought felt pretty hard, but she's ok with it. Thought about putting an insert in, but she said the top of her toes were touching the bottom side of the top of the boot on the inside, so likely no room for an insert. She wore them to horse riding lessons when it was about 30F outside, she reported her feet were cold in them at the end of almost 90 minutes. Wearing them to school and recess though, she says her feet have not gotten cold. So over all, the fit seems good, the boots are comfortable and warm for short durations at least. They are pretty waterproof on the lower part of the boots, and look nice. If any issues arise as we get further into winter, I will update.

Snowshoeing

These boots are GREAT for snowshoeing and casual wear as long as you keep moving as with snowshoeing to keep your feet warm. They are light and cute and best of all, waterproof. However, they are not warm enough for winters in upstate New York but they are good for wet spring weather. I bought them for snowshoeing so I am very pleased for that purpose but have other brands for warmth.

Comfortable And Very Warm

So sad that summer is long gone and winter is just around the corner. Goodbye flip-flops and shorts. With that in mind I realized that I need to replace my worn out snow boots if I want to survive another cold and snowy winter. These boots are very warm due to the Thinsulate lining. I ordered a 1/2 size up from my normal size to accommodate thick woolen socks and the fit is exactly right. The boots fit as expected. These are serious boots! Each weighs a hefty 22 ounces and has thick lugged soles that will keep me from slipping on snowy and icy pathways. Although the soles are thick, they are also flexible so I had no trouble walking around the house in them. These are great boots!Right out of the box the laces are arranged to give an attractive white fleecy cuff at the top so the boot is about 8 1/2" tall not counting the grey and white marled knitted piece sewn to the lining that peeks out the top. If the laces are rearranged to eliminate the fleecy white cuff the boot measures about 9 3/4" tall. That should be tall enough to keep the snow out! The knit cuff piece will hold my pants when I tuck them in.Warm, comfortable, and slip resistant. They definitely deserve a strong 5 star rating. These boots and I will be inseparable this winter!
